Priesthood of YHVH

What is the job of a priest?

The role of a priest is to intercede for sinful mankind to a sinless authority, namely, the Creator. Yeshua makes atonement for us through His priesthood requirements in the heavenly tabernacle and this is what justifies us in the Creator’s eyes allowing us to be resurrected to eternal life.

Priests are knowledgeable in the word and should teach others regarding it

First Samuel 2:35 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.

Malachi 2:6-7 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“True instruction was in his mouth and unrighteousness was not found on his lips; he walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many back from iniquity. “For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and men should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

Priests are the ones who collect the tithe

Priests are judges

Deuteronomy 21:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come near, for the LORD your God has chosen them to serve Him and to bless in the name of the LORD; and every dispute and every assault shall be settled by them.

Priests perform the duties of offerings and mediate for men to the Creator

Deuteronomy 18:6-7 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Now if a Levite comes from any of your towns throughout Israel where he resides, and comes whenever he desires to the place which the LORD chooses, then he shall serve in the name of the Lord his God, like all his fellow Levites who stand there before the LORD.

First Corinthians 9:13 (ASV, American Standard Version)Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat of the things of the temple, and they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar?

Hebrews 5:1-2 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness;

How does a priest mediate for you?

Exodus 28:29-30 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Aaron shall carry the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment over his heart when he enters the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually. “You shall put in the breastpiece of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall carry the judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the Lord continually.

Exodus 29:32-33 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting. “Thus they shall eat those things by which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration; but a layman shall not eat them, because they are holy.

Hebrews 5:1 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;

The Food of Your God

Exodus 29:1-9 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them to minister as priests to Me: take one young bull and two rams without blemish, and unleavened bread and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers spread with oil; you shall make them of fine wheat flour. “You shall put them in one basket, and present them in the basket along with the bull and the two rams. “Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water. “You shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the tunic and the robe of the ephod and the ephod and the breastpiece, and gird him with the skillfully woven band of the ephod; and you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban. “Then you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him. “You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them. “You shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind caps on them, and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute. So you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.

Exodus 30:1-5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Moreover, you shall make an altar as a place for burning incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. “Its length shall be a cubit, and its width a cubit, it shall be square, and its height shall be two cubits; its horns shall be of one piece with it. “You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and its sides all around, and its horns; and you shall make a gold molding all around for it. “You shall make two gold rings for it under its molding; you shall make them on its two side walls–on opposite sides–and they shall be holders for poles with which to carry it. “You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

Hebrews 9:6-10 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Now when these things have been so prepared, the priests are continually entering the outer tabernacle performing the divine worship, but into the second, only the high priest enters once a year, not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance. The Holy Spirit is signifying this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the outer tabernacle is still standing, which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, since they relate only to food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation.

Leviticus 21:17 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Speak to Aaron, saying, ‘No man of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall approach to offer the food of his God.

Leviticus 21:8 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)You shall consecrate him, therefore, for he offers the food of your God; he shall be holy to you; for I the LORD, who sanctifies you, am holy.

Leviticus 22:25 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)nor shall you accept any such from the hand of a foreigner for offering as the food of your God; for their corruption is in them, they have a defect, they shall not be accepted for you.’”

Exodus 29:38-42 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: two one year old lambs each day, continuously. “The one lamb you shall offer in the morning and The other lamb you shall offer at twilight; and there shall be one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of beaten oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering with one lamb. “The other lamb you shall offer at twilight, and shall offer with it the same grain offering and the same drink offering as in the morning, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the LORD. “It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there.
In Exodus Chapter 29 and 30 the ordination ceremony of priests is described. At this occasion, Yahweh wanted a meal offering with all the fixins’, meat, salt, bread & oil, and wine. In chapter 29, verse 38, these meals were to occur twice daily; once in the morning and once in the evening.

Exodus 30:17-29 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base of bronze, for washing; and you shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. “Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet from it; when they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, so that they will not die; or when they approach the altar to minister, by offering up in smoke a fire sacrifice to the LORD. “So they shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they will not die; and it shall be a perpetual statute for them, for Aaron and his descendants throughout their generations.” Moreover, the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Take also for yourself the finest of spices: of flowing myrrh five hundred shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, two hundred and fifty, and of fragrant cane two hundred and fifty, and of cassia five hundred, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin. “You shall make of these a holy anointing oil, a perfume mixture, the work of a perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil. “With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, and the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the laver and its stand. “You shall also consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy.
In Exodus chapter 30 verses 17 through 19, Yahweh requires the priest to wash his hands be offering the food and eating. In verses 22 through 24 the spices Yahweh wants are described and in verse 28 the utensils are described. This is the description of what Yahweh wants us to do to meet with him; do not come empty handed.

Bread of Heaven

Exodus 16:4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction.

Psalm 78:23-25 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Yet He commanded the clouds above And opened the doors of heaven; He rained down manna upon them to eat And gave them food from heaven. Man did eat the bread of angels; He sent them food in abundance.

Spiritual Bread

First Corinthians 10:3-4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.

John 6:30-35 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? “Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘HE GAVE THEM bread out of heaven to eat.’” Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

John 6:48-51 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)I am the bread of life. “Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. “This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”

How many priesthoods are there?

Levitical – The Priesthood of Men

Jubilees 30:18 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And the seed of Levi was chosen for the priesthood, and to be Levites, that they might minister before the Lord, as we, continually, and that Levi and his sons may be blessed for ever; for he was zealous to execute righteousness and judgment and vengeance on all those who arose against Israel.
Referencing the event at Shechem.

Heavenly – The priesthood of Angels

Matthew 4:10-11 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’” Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.

Psalm 103:19-21 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will.

Psalm 104:4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)He makes the winds His messengers, Flaming fire His ministers.

Testament of Levi 3:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)In the sixth are the angels of the presence of the Lord, who minister and make propitiation to the Lord for all the sins the righteous committed in ignorance; and they offer to the Lord a reasonable sweet-smelling savor, and a bloodless offering.

Melchizedekian – The Highest Priesthood (The Priesthood Yeshua Earned)

Hebrews 1:3-4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Hebrews 5:1-10 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness; and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself. And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was. So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, “YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU”; just as He says also in another passage, “YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.” In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

The priesthood passed down

Priests existed before the Levites

Exodus 19:18-24 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, so that they do not break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish. “Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out against them.” Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for You warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds about the mountain and consecrate it.’” Then the LORD said to him, “Go down and come up again, you and Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the Lord, or He will break forth upon them.”

Testament of Issachar 3:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Out of my produce I offered first fruits to the Lord by the hands of the priests.

Adam

Charles Version)Jacob, my beloved son, whom my soul loveth, may God bless thee from above the firmament, and may He give thee all the blessings wherewith He blessed Adam, and Enoch, and Noah, and Shem; and all the things of which He told me, and all the things which He promised to give me, may he cause to cleave to thee and to thy seed for ever, according to the days of heaven above the earth.

Enoch > Methuselah > Lamech > Noah

The rite if the priesthood is being passed down from father to son.

First Enoch 76:12 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And after these [four] are the west winds: through the first portal adjoining the north come forth dew and hoar-frost, and cold and snow and frost. And from the middle portal come forth dew and rain, and prosperity and blessing; and through the last portal which adjoins the south come forth drought and desolation, and burning and destruction. And the twelve portals of the four quarters of the heaven are therewith completed, and all their laws and all their plagues and all their benefactions have I shown to thee, my son Methuselah.

First Enoch 81:5-6 (RHCV, R.H. First Enoch 82:1-2 (RHCV, R.H. He shall also make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.

Noah

Genesis 8:20 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

Jubilees 7:20 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And in the twenty-eighth jubilee [1324-1372 A.M.] Noah began to enjoin upon his sons’ sons the ordinances and commandments, and all the judgments that he knew, and he exhorted his sons to observe righteousness, and to cover the shame of their flesh, and to bless their Creator, and honour father and mother, and love their neighbour, and guard their souls from fornication and uncleanness and all iniquity.

Jubilees 7:3 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he celebrated with joy the day of this feast, and he made a burnt sacrifice unto the Lord, one young ox and one ram, and seven sheep, each a year old, and a kid of the goats, that he might make atonement thereby for himself and his sons.

Testament of Noah [1Q20, Column 10] 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)The Ark rested on one of the mountains of Ararat and the eternal fire… I atoned for the whole earth. First I offered a male goat… Afterward, I burned the fat upon the fire. Second, I offered a thank offering consisting of aux, ram and sheep. Then I poured out all their blood on the base of the altar and burned all their flesh on the altar. Third, I offered up the young turtle doves, flesh and blood with them upon the altar. Then I offered fine wheat flour mixed together with oil containing incense for their meal offerings. I set a blessing. It was putting salt on all of them. And the sin of my offering rose up to the heavens, Then the Most High Blessed.

Testament of Noah [1Q20, Column 12] 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)On that day I, my sons and my grandsons, with all our wives and daughters, gathered together at the altar.

Shem

Jubilees 19:16-17 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And Abraham saw the deeds of Esau, and he knew that in Jacob should his name and seed be called; and he called Rebecca and gave commandment regarding Jacob, for he knew that she (too) loved Jacob much more than Esau. And he said unto her: My daughter, watch over my son Jacob, For he shall be in my stead on the earth, And for a blessing in the midst of the children of men, And for the glory of the whole seed of Shem.

Jubilees 19:24-25 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And in his seed shall my name be blessed, and the name of my fathers, Shem, and Noab, and Enoch, and Mahalalel, and Enos, and Seth, and Adam. And these shall serve To lay the foundations of the heaven, And to strengthen the earth, And to renew all the luminaries which are in the firmament.

Testament of Noah [1Q20, Column 15] 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)I quickly went to Shem, my son and told him everything, that through him the righteous one would come. And that he had to preserve the knowledge and become the next priest of the Most High God.

Jubilees 19:17 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he said unto her: My daughter, watch over my son Jacob, For he shall be in my stead on the earth, And for a blessing in the midst of the children of men, And for the glory of the whole seed of Shem.

Abraham

Genesis 15:10 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, and laid each half opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds.

Jubilees 16:20-31 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he built there an altar to the Lord who had delivered him, and who was making him rejoice in the land of his sojourning, and he celebrated a festival of joy in this month seven days, near the altar which he had built at the Well of the Oath. And he built booths for himself and for his servants on this festival, and he was the first to celebrate the feast of tabernacles on the earth. And during these seven days he brought each day to the altar a burnt offering to the Lord, two oxen, two rams, seven sheep, one he-goat, for a sin offering, that he might atone thereby for himself and for his seed. And, as a thank-offering, seven rams, seven kids, seven sheep, and seven he-goats, and their fruit offerings and their drink offerings; and he burnt all the fat thereof on the altar, a chosen offering unto the Lord for a sweet smelling savour. And morning and evening he burnt fragrant substances, frankincense and galbanum, and stackte, and nard, and myrrh, and spice, and costum; all these seven he offered, crushed, mixed together in equal parts (and) pure. And he celebrated this feast during seven days, rejoicing with all his heart and with all his soul, he and all those who were in his house, and there was no stranger with him, nor any that was uncircumcised. And he blessed his Creator who had created him in his generation, for He had created him according to His good pleasure; for He knew and perceived that from him would arise the plant of righteousness for the eternal generations, and from him a holy seed, so that it should become like Him who had made all things. And he blessed and rejoiced, and he called the name of this festival the festival of the Lord, a joy acceptable to the Most High God. And we blessed him for ever, and all his seed after him throughout all the generations of the earth, because he celebrated this festival in its season, according to the testimony of the heavenly tablets. For this reason it is ordained on the heavenly tablets concerning Israel, that they shall celebrate the feast of tabernacles seven days with joy, in the seventh month, acceptable before the Lord -a statute for ever throughout their generations every year. And to this there is no limit of days; for it is ordained for ever regarding Israel that they should celebrate it and dwell in booths, and set wreaths upon their heads, and take leafy boughs, and willows from the brook. And Abraham took branches of palm trees, and the fruit of goodly trees, and every day going round the altar with the branches seven times [a day] in the morning, he praised and gave thanks to his God for all things in joy.

Leviticus 1:17 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then he shall tear it by its wings, but shall not sever it. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar on the wood which is on the fire; it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.

Testament of Abraham [1Q20, Column 21] 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)I stopped at each of my former encampments until I arrived at Bethel, the place where I had built the altar. I then rebuilt it and offered up burnt offering in a meal offering to the Most High God. There I called on the name of the Lord of the Ages.

Jubilees 19:24 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And in his seed shall my name be blessed, and the name of my fathers, Shem, and Noab, and Enoch, and Mahalalel, and Enos, and Seth, and Adam.

Isaac

Testament of Levi 9:2 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)And after two days I (Levi) and Judah went up with our father Jacob to Isaac our father’s father. And my father’s father blessed me according to all the words of the visions which I had seen. And he would not come with us to Bethel. And when we came to Bethel, my father saw a vision concerning me, that I should be their priest unto God. And he rose up early in the morning, and paid tithes of all to the Lord through me. And so we came to Hebron to dwell there. And Isaac called me continually to put me in remembrance of the law of the Lord, even as the angel of the Lord showed unto me. And he taught me the law of the priesthood of sacrifices, whole burnt-offerings, first-fruits, freewill-offerings, peace-offerings. And each day he was instructing me, and was busied on my behalf before the Lord, and said to me: Beware of the spirit of fornication; for this shall continue and shall by thy seed pollute the holy place. Take, therefore, to thyself a wife without blemish or pollution, while yet thou are young, and not of the race of strange nations. And before entering into the holy place, bathe; and when thou offerest the sacrifice, wash; and again, when thou finishest the sacrifice, wash. Of twelve trees having leaves offer to the Lord, as Abraham taught me also. And of every clean beast and bird offer a sacrifice to the Lord. And of all thy first-fruits and of wine offer the first, as a sacrifice to the Lord God; and every sacrifice thou shalt salt with salt. Now, therefore, observe whatsoever I command you, children; for whatsoever things I have heard from my fathers I have declared unto you.

Testament of Issachar 2:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Therefore the Lord listened to Rachel because of the mandrakes, for though she desired them, she ate them not, but brought them to the priests of the Most High who was at that time and offered them up in the House of the Lord.
Most likely Isaac as Shem, Eber and Abraham were already dead.

Jacob

Jubilees 19:13-17 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)and [2046 A.M.] Jacob was a smooth and upright man, and Esau was fierce, a man of the field, and hairy, and Jacob dwelt in tents. And the youths grew, and Jacob learned to write; but Esau did not learn, for he was a man of the field and a hunter, and he learnt war, and all his deeds were fierce. And Abraham loved Jacob, but Isaac loved Esau. And Abraham saw the deeds of Esau, and he knew that in Jacob should his name and seed be called; and he called Rebecca and gave commandment regarding Jacob, for he knew that she (too) loved Jacob much more than Esau. And he said unto her: My daughter, watch over my son Jacob, For he shall be in my stead on the earth, And for a blessing in the midst of the children of men, And for the glory of the whole seed of Shem.

Jubilees 31:13-15 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he turned to Levi first, and began to bless him first, and said unto him: May the God of all, the very Lord of all the ages, bless thee and thy children throughout all the ages. And may the Lord give to thee and to thy seed greatness and great glory, and cause thee and thy seed, from among all flesh, to approach Him to serve in His sanctuary as the angels of the presence and as the holy ones. (Even) as they, shall the seed of thy sons be for glory and greatness and holiness, and may He make them great unto all the ages. And they shall be judges and princes, and chiefs of all the seed of the sons of Jacob; They shall speak the word of the Lord in righteousness, And they shall judge all His judgments in righteousness. And they shall declare My ways to Jacob And My paths to Israel. The blessing of the Lord shall be given in their mouths To bless all the seed of the beloved.

Jubilees 32:21-27 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he saw in a vision of the night, and behold an angel descended from heaven with seven tablets in his hands, and he gave them to Jacob, and he read them and knew all that was written therein which would befall him and his sons throughout all the ages. And he showed him all that was written on the tablets, and said unto him: ‘Do not build this place, and do not make it an eternal sanctuary, and do not dwell here; for this is not the place. Go to the house of Abraham thy father and dwell with Isaac thy father until the day of the death of thy father. For in Egypt thou shalt die in peace, and in this land thou shalt be buried with honour in the sepulchre of thy fathers, with Abraham and Isaac. Fear not, for as thou hast seen and read it, thus shall it all be; and do thou write down everything as thou hast seen and read.’ And Jacob said: ‘Lord, how can I remember all that I have read and seen? ‘And he said unto him: ‘I will bring all things to thy remembrance.’ And he went up from him, and he awoke from his sleep, and he remembered everything which he had read and seen, and he wrote down all the words which he had read and seen. And he celebrated there yet another day, and he sacrificed thereon according to all that he sacrificed on the former days, and called its name ‘Addition,’ for this day was added and the former days he called ‘The Feast ‘.

Testament of Jacob, [4Q537, Fragment 2] 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)How the temple will be and how the priest will dress. And… …their purification rights. They will offer sacrifices on the altar. And how they will eat a part of their sacrifices as their food. In the whole land.

Jubilees 22:26 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And the two lay together on one bed, and Jacob slept in the bosom of Abraham, his father’s father and he kissed him seven times, and his affection and his heart rejoiced over him.

Jubilees 22:10 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he called Jacob and said: ‘My son Jacob, may the God of all bless thee and strengthen thee to do righteousness, and His will before Him, and may He choose thee and thy seed that ye may become a people for His inheritance according to His will alway.

Jubilees 22:5 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And Isaac, too, sent by the hand of Jacob to Abraham a best thank offering, that he might eat and drink.

Jubilees 25:12 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And she said: ‘Blessed be the Lord God, and may His holy name be blessed for ever and ever, who has given me Jacob as a pure son and a holy seed; for he is Thine, and Thine shall his seed be continually and throughout all the generations for evermore.

Jubilees 25:15 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)Blessed art thou, Lord of righteousness and God of the ages And may He bless thee beyond all the generations of men. May He give thee, my Son, the path of righteousness, And reveal righteousness to thy seed.

Jubilees 35:13 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And Isaac said unto her: ‘I, too, know and see the deeds of Jacob who is with us, how that with all his heart he honours us; but I loved Esau formerly more than Jacob, because he was the firstborn; but now I love Jacob more than Esau, for he has done manifold evil deeds, and there is no righteousness in him, for all his ways are unrighteousness and violence, [and there is no righteousness around him.]

Jubilees 35:23 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And I, myself, beg thee to exhort Jacob concerning me and concerning my sons, for I know that he will assuredly be king over me and my sons, for on the day my father blessed him he made him the higher and me the lower.

Levi

Jubilees 30:18 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And the seed of Levi was chosen for the priesthood, and to be Levites, that they might minister before the Lord, as we, continually, and that Levi and his sons may be blessed for ever; for he was zealous to execute righteousness and judgment and vengeance on all those who arose against Israel.

Jubilees 32:1-5 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he abode that night at Bethel, and Levi dreamed that they had ordained and made him the priest of the Most High God, him and his sons for ever; and he awoke from his sleep and blessed the Lord. And Jacob rose early in the morning, on the fourteenth of this month, and he gave a tithe of all that came with him, both of men and cattle, both of gold and every vessel and garment, yea, he gave tithes of all. And in those days Rachel became pregnant with her son Benjamin. And Jacob counted his sons from him upwards and Levi fell to the portion of the Lord, and his father clothed him in the garments of the priesthood and filled his hands. And on the fifteenth of this month, he brought to the altar fourteen oxen from amongst the cattle, and twenty-eight rams, and forty-nine sheep, and seven lambs, and twenty-one kids of the goats as a burnt-offering on the altar of sacrifice, well pleasing for a sweet savour before God. This was his offering, in consequence of the vow which he had vowed that he would give a tenth, with their fruit-offerings and their drink- offerings.

Jubilees 32:8-10 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he tithed all the clean animals, and made a burnt sacrifice, but the unclean animals he gave (not) to Levi his son, and he gave him all the souls of the men. And Levi discharged the priestly office at Bethel before Jacob his father in preference to his ten brothers, and he was a priest there, and Jacob gave his vow: thus he tithed again the tithe to the Lord and sanctified it, and it became holy unto Him. And for this reason it is ordained on the heavenly tablets as a law for the tithing again the tithe to eat before the Lord from year to year, in the place where it is chosen that His name should dwell, and to this law there is no limit of days for ever.

Malachi 2:4-7 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“Then you will know that I have sent this commandment to you, that My covenant may continue with Levi,” says the LORD of hosts. “My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him as an object of reverence; so he revered Me and stood in awe of My name. “True instruction was in his mouth and unrighteousness was not found on his lips; he walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many back from iniquity. “For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and men should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

Testament of Judah 21:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)And now my children, I command you, love Levi, that you may abide and exalt not yourselves against him, lest you be destroyed. For to me YHVH gave me the kingdom and to him the priesthood and he set the kingdom under the priesthood. To me he gave the things of the earth, to him the things in heaven. As the heaven is higher than the earth, so is the priesthood of Elohim higher than the earthly kingdom, unless it falls away through sin from YHVH and is dominated by the earthly kingdom.

Testament of Levi 8:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)After seventy days while at Bethel, I dreamed again. Like the former dream, I saw seven men in white raiment say to me, “Arise, put on the robe of the priesthood, the crown of righteousness, the breastplate of understanding, the garment of truth, the diadem of faith, the crown of miracles and the ephod of prophecy.” Each one of them gave me one of these things. I put them on and then they said, “From now on you are a priest of the Lord, you and your seed forever.” The first anointed me with holy oil, and gave me the rod of judgement. The second washed me with pure water and fed me with bread and wine, and dressed me with a holy and glorious robe. The third clothed me with a linen garment like a ephod. The fourth put around me a purple girdle. The fifth gave me a branch of rich olive. The sixth placed a crown on my head. The seventh placed on my head the diadem of the priesthood, and filled my hands with incense, so that I served as priest to the Lord. They said to me, “Levi your sed will be divided into three branches, for a sign of the glory of the Lord who is to come. The first will be he who has been faithful, no portion will be greater than his. The second will be in the priesthood. The third, a new name will be called over him, because he will arise as king from Judah, and will establish a new priesthood, after the fashion of the gentiles, to all gentiles. His appearing will be unutterable, as of an exalted prophet of the seed of Abraham our father. Every desirable thing in Israel will be for you and for your seed, and everything fair to look upon will you eat, and the table of the lord, your seed will apportion. And some of them will be high priests, judges, and scribes. For by their mouth will the holy place be guarded.” When I awoke, I understood that this dream was like the former dream. I hid this also in my heart, and did not tell anyone.

Testament of Levi 12:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)At nineteen years old I became priest and at twenty-eight years old I took a wife.

Testament of Levi 2:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)For you will stand before the Lord To be his minister. And reveal the Redeemer of Israel and his mysteries to men. The Lord will appear among men through you and Judah, saving them out of every race. Serving the Lord will be your portion in life.

Testament of Levi 5:2 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Then the Angel opened the gates of heaven, and I saw the Holy Temple, the Most High upon a throne of glory. He said to me, Levi, I have given you the blessings of the priesthood until I come and sojourn in the midst of Israel.

Testament of Levi 8:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)After seventy days while at Bethel, I dreamed again. I hid this also in my heart, and did not tell anyone.

Testament of Levi 9:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)When we came to Bethel, my father Jacob, had a vision concerning me. That I should be comprised into the Lord. And he rose up early in the morning, and paid tithes of all to the Lord through me. We came to Hebron to dwell there, and Isaac continually taught me the law of the Lord, even as the Angel of God showed to me. He taught me the law of the priesthood of sacrifices, whole burnt offerings, first fruits of freewill offerings and thank offerings. Every day he instructed me and prayed for me before the Lord. He told me. Take heed my child of the spirit of fornication. For this will continue and will by your seed pollute the holy things. Therefore, while yet you are still young, take a wife without blemish, nor yet polluted. Nor of the race of the Philistines or Gentiles, before entering into the Holy Place bathe. When you offer the sacrifice wash again, and when you finish the sacrifice wash. Of 12 Evergreen trees offer up the fruits to the Lord as Abraham taught me. Of every clean beast and clean bird offer a sacrificed Lord. Of every firstling and of wine offer first fruits. Every sacrifice you will salt with salt.

Testament of Levi 9:3 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)And Isaac called me continually to put me in remembrance of the Torah of YHVH, even as the angel of YHVH showed me. And he taught me the Torah of the priesthood, of sacrifices, whole burnt offerings, first fruits, freewill offerings and peace offerings. And each day he was instructing me and was bruised on my behalf before YHVH and said to me, “Beware of the Rauch of fornication, for this shall continue and shall by your seed pollute the holy place. Take therefore to yourself a woman without blemish or pollution, while yet you are young and not the race of strange nations.

Testament of Reuben 6:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Therefore I command you to obey Levi, because he will know the law of the Lord, and will create ordinances for judgment and sacrifice for all Israel until the time of Messiah the High Priest who the Lord has declared.

Testament of Rueben 6:8 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)“Therefore I command you to harken to Levi, because he shall know the Torah of YHVH and shall give ordinances for judgment and shall sacrifice for all Israel until the consummation of the times, as the anointed high priest, of whom YHVH spoke”

Testament of Simeon 7:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)My children, obey Levi and Judah. Will you be redeemed? Do not rebel against these two tribes. For from them will arise the salvation of God, for the Lord will raise up from Levi a priest, and from Judah a king, who is both a god and man. So he will save all the Gentiles and Israel. Therefore, I command you these things in order that you also may command your children, that they may observe them throughout their generations.

Testament of Simeon 5:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)The Levi will win the war of the Lord and will conquer all of you. Levi and Judah will always produce the true kings and priests, and rule over you as our Father Jacob and prophesied.

Jubilees 30:19 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And so they inscribe as a testimony in his favour on the heavenly tablets blessing and righteousness before the God of all:

Jubilees 30:20 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And we remember the righteousness which the man fulfilled during his life, at all periods of the year; until a thousand generations they will record it, and it will come to him and to his descendants after him, and he has been recorded on the heavenly tablets as a friend and a righteous man.

Jubilees 31:13 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he turned to Levi first, and began to bless him first, and said unto him: May the God of all, the very Lord of all the ages, bless thee and thy children throughout all the ages.

Jubilees 31:7 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And she saw his two sons, and she recognised them, and said unto him: ‘Are these thy sons, my son?’ and she embraced them and kissed them, and blessed them, saying: ‘In you shall the seed of Abraham become illustrious, and ye shall prove a blessing on the earth.’

Jubilees 32:1 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he abode that night at Bethel, and Levi dreamed that they had ordained and made him the priest of the Most High God, him and his sons for ever; and he awoke from his sleep and blessed the Lord.

Jubilees 32:3 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And in those days Rachel became pregnant with her son Benjamin. And Jacob counted his sons from him upwards and Levi fell to the portion of the Lord, and his father clothed him in the garments of the priesthood and filled his hands.

Jubilees 32:9 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And Levi discharged the priestly office at Bethel before Jacob his father in preference to his ten brothers, and he was a priest there, and Jacob gave his vow: thus he tithed again the tithe to the Lord and sanctified it, and it became holy unto Him.

Jubilees 45:16 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And he gave all his books and the books of his fathers to Levi his son that he might preserve them and renew them for his children until this day.

Kohath

Testament of Kohath [4Q542, Fragment 1] 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Now, my sons, be careful with inheritance which has been given to you by our fathers. Do not give your inheritance to foreigners, or your heritage to half-breeds or you will become foolishly humiliated in their eyes. They will scorn you when they go from being residents among you to being chiefs over you. Hold on to the words of our righteous fathers, Abraham, Jacob, and my words. Be holy and pure from all corruption. Hold on to the truth and walk in uprightness. Do not be double minded, but have a pure heart and a truthful and good spirit. It will give a good name to me, joy to Levi, gladness to Jacob, rejoicing to Isaac, and honor to Abraham. If you keep and carry on the inheritance which your Father’s gave you in truth, justice, upright perfection, purity, and holiness. You must keep the priesthood in every way that I have commanded you, and according to all that…

Moses

Assumption of Moses 1:14-15 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)Accordingly He designed and devised me, and He prepared me before the foundation of the world, that I should be the mediator of His covenant. And now I declare unto thee that the time of the years of my life is fulfilled and I am passing away to sleep with my fathers even in the presence of all the people.

Assumption of Moses 12:6 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)The Lord hath on their behalf appointed me to pray for their sins

Assumption of Moses 3:12 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And assuredly called heaven and earth to witness against us, that we should not transgress His commandments, in the which he was a mediator unto us?

Exodus 32:30 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)On the next day Moses said to the people, “You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the LORD, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.

Assumption of Moses 12:6 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)The Lord hath on their behalf appointed me to pray for their sins

Aaron (1st High Priest of Israel)

Exodus 19:5-6 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

Exodus 29:9 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“You shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind caps on them, and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute. So you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.

Eleazar (2nd High Priest of Israel)

Leviticus 10:16-20 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But Moses searched carefully for the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it had been burned up! So he was angry with Aaron’s surviving sons Eleazar and Ithamar, saying, “Why did you not eat the sin offering at the holy place? For it is most holy, and He gave it to you to bear away the guilt of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the LORD. “Behold, since its blood had not been brought inside, into the sanctuary, you should certainly have eaten it in the sanctuary, just as I commanded.” But Aaron spoke to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. When things like these happened to me, if I had eaten a sin offering today, would it have been good in the sight of the LORD?” When Moses heard that, it seemed good in his sight.
The memorial portion was burned.

Phinehas (Eleazar’s son)-Abishua-Bukki-Uzzi-Eli- Zerahiah

Eli’s son’s sinned, so the priesthood was transferred from Eli’s line to Zadok’s line.
Zadok, as a patrilineal descendant of Phinehas (son of Eleazar) assumed the high priesthood. His sons were Ahimaaz and Azariah followed by his descendants who held the high priesthood up to the destruction of the First Temple and, following the building of the Second Temple, resumed the high priesthood, as per Joshua the High Priest (along with Ezra) being of Sons of Zadok lineage.

Ezra 7:4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,

First Chronicles 6:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)and Abishua became the father of Bukki, and Bukki became the father of Uzzi,

First Chronicles 6:51 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,

First Samuel 2:12 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know the LORD

First Samuel 4:18 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backward beside the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for he was old and heavy. Thus he judged Israel forty years.

Josephus Antiquities 11:2 (Whiston Translation)Phinehas was already acting as high priest, his father having made way for him by reason of old age.

Ahitub-Ahijah-Ahimelech-Abiathar-Zadok

First Chronicles 6:8 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)and Ahitub became the father of Zadok, and Zadok became the father of Ahimaaz,

Josephus Antiquities 7:2 (Whiston Translation)“among them were the high priest Zadok and twenty-two kinsmen as leaders.”

The Sons of Zadok

Ezekiel 44:15 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“But the Levitical priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the sons of Israel went astray from Me, shall come near to Me to minister to Me; and they shall stand before Me to offer Me the fat and the blood,” declares the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 48:11 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“It shall be for the priests who are sanctified of the sons of Zadok, who have kept My charge, who did not go astray when the sons of Israel went astray as the Levites went astray.

The Maccabees

First Maccabees 11:23-27 (CPR, Cepher (Modified))Nevertheless Yonathan, when he heard this, commanded to besiege it still: and he chose certain of the elders of Israel and the priests, and put himself in peril; And took silver and gold, and raiment, and diverse presents besides, and went to Akko unto the king, where he found favor in his sight. And though certain wicked men of the people had made complaints against him, Yet the king entreated him as his predecessors had done before and promoted him in the sight of all his friends, And confirmed him in the high priesthood, and in all the honors that he had before, and gave him preeminence among his chief friends.

John the Baptist

John 1:19-28 (ASV, American Standard Version)And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet. And they had been sent from the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not, even he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Luke 3:2 (ASV, American Standard Version)in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

Luke 7:30 (ASV, American Standard Version)But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of God, being not baptized of him.

Mark 1:1-5 (ASV, American Standard Version)The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way; The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight; John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the country of Judæa, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

Matthew 14:5 (ASV, American Standard Version)And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

Matthew 17:10-13 (ASV, American Standard Version)And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come? And he answered and said, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things : but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them. Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Acts 13:23-25 (ASV, American Standard Version)Of this man’s seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus; when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

Yeshua

Yeshua is called a priest forever

Are we priests today?

Romans 15:16 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Holy Nation

Jubilees 22:12 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)Be strong in the presence of men, And exercise authority over all the seed of Seth. Then thy ways and the ways of thy sons will be justified, So that they shall become a holy nation.

Jubilees 33:20 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)And there is no greater sin than the fornication which they commit on earth; for Israel is a holy nation unto the Lord its God, and a nation of inheritance, and a priestly and royal nation and for (His own) possession; and there shall no such uncleanness appear in the midst of the holy nation.

We are the priesthood

First Peter 2:9-10 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

Does sacrifice forgive sins?

Deuteronomy 18:13 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.

Hebrews 10:4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Hebrews 9:22 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Leviticus 19:22 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The priest shall also make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the LORD for his sin which he has committed, and the sin which he has committed will be forgiven him.

Leviticus 4:20 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)He shall also do with the bull just as he did with the bull of the sin offering; thus he shall do with it. So the priest shall make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven.

Leviticus 4:26 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)All its fat he shall offer up in smoke on the altar as in the case of the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him in regard to his sin, and he will be forgiven.

Leviticus 4:31 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then he shall remove all its fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar for a soothing aroma to the LORD. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven.

Leviticus 4:35 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then he shall remove all its fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offerings, and the priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar, on the offerings by fire to the LORD. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him in regard to his sin which he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

Leviticus 5:11-13 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But if his means are insufficient for two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then for his offering for that which he has sinned, he shall bring the tenth of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall not put oil on it or place incense on it, for it is a sin offering. He shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it as its memorial portion and offer it up in smoke on the altar, with the offerings of the LORD by fire: it is a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin which he has committed from one of these, and it will be forgiven him; then the rest shall become the priest’s, like the grain offering.’”

Leviticus 5:16 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“He shall make restitution for that which he has sinned against the holy thing, and shall add to it a fifth part of it and give it to the priest. The priest shall then make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it will be forgiven him.

Leviticus 5:6 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)He shall also bring his guilt offering to the LORD for his sin which he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin.

Leviticus 5:10 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The second he shall then prepare as a burnt offering according to the ordinance. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin which he has committed, and it will be forgiven him.
When a priest gives an offering on behalf of a sinner, if the sinner has a repentant heart, his sins are forgiven. Even for the poor person, who cannot offer the blood of an animal; see Leviticus 5:11 below. Not all sin offerings require blood.

Leviticus 5:18 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)“He is then to bring to the priest a ram without defect from the flock, according to your valuation, for a guilt offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his error in which he sinned unintentionally and did not know it, and it will be forgiven him.
Doesn’t the writer of Hebrews says that blood is required for forgiveness? And the blood of bulls and goats can’t take away sin? The writer of Hebrews says, “almost all things are cleansed with blood”, not all. And it is true that these offerings could not “take away” sin. Sin persists today, and even after the sinner’s sins were atoned for at the temple, the sinner quite possibly could go begin sinning that same day. These offerings atoned for sin; they did not stop it from occurring again.

Forgiveness for intentional sins

Leviticus 5:1-6 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Now if a person sins after he hears a public adjuration to testify when he is a witness, whether he has seen or otherwise known, if he does not tell it, then he will bear his guilt. Or if a person touches any unclean thing, whether a carcass of an unclean beast or the carcass of unclean cattle or a carcass of unclean swarming things, though it is hidden from him and he is unclean, then he will be guilty. Or if he touches human uncleanness, of whatever sort his uncleanness may be with which he becomes unclean, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty. Or if a person swears thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, in whatever matter a man may speak thoughtlessly with an oath, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty in one of these. So it shall be when he becomes guilty in one of these, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned. He shall also bring his guilt offering to the LORD for his sin which he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin.

Leviticus 6:1-7 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “When a person sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD, and deceives his companion in regard to a deposit or a security entrusted to him, or through robbery, or if he has extorted from his companion, or has found what was lost and lied about it and sworn falsely, so that he sins in regard to any one of the things a man may do; then it shall be, when he sins and becomes guilty, that he shall restore what he took by robbery or what he got by extortion, or the deposit which was entrusted to him or the lost thing which he found, or anything about which he swore falsely; he shall make restitution for it in full and add to it one-fifth more. He shall give it to the one to whom it belongs on the day he presents his guilt offering. “Then he shall bring to the priest his guilt offering to the LORD, a ram without defect from the flock, according to your valuation, for a guilt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD, and he will be forgiven for any one of the things which he may have done to incur guilt.”
